What are your thoughts on sustainable housing at london 2012 Olympic games?

Hi,

I am writing my dissertation on Sustainable Housing at the London 2012 Olympic Village. I would like to have some expert opinions on this topic. This is part of my primary research of my dissertation. I have come up with a few questions:

1) What are your thoughts on sustainable homes? 2) Is it worth all the money London 2012 are spending on the homes? 3) Do you think sustainable homes are the way foward? 4) Will this benefit the public? 5) Are people willing to change the way they live? 6) Do you have any broad opinions on the Olympic Village Design? 7) What is your experience in design and working with sustainablity?

Thanks

Hi Laxmi,

I think the first element you need to define is the term 'sustainability', what do you mean by this term? You will find that most architectural advisory groups on Sustainable Development give a different definition of what they mean by 'Sustainable Development'.

I would begin by reviewing information on Sustainability from the following groups:

The most interesting publications in relation to architecture are definitely from CABE. They challenge the status quo and discuss how housing, communities and transport could be interlinked to provide sustainable solutions, re-imagining the way we build houses and communities. The CABE definition of sustainability is definitely aspiration if not inspirational.

Good luck with your dissertation.

As a final year degree dissertation supervisor I would not recommend using this method to do your primary research, especially if you are now in a panic to finish the work to hand in early next month!

Are you looking for professional opinions or the views of the public? If the latter you'll get much better data if you set up a questionnaire on something like surveymonkey, send the link to as many varied people as you can and ask them to forward it on to a few contacts each.

If you want professional views I would use the same route and try to find contacts through tutors or yellow pages or similar.

Questions asking for respondents to rate statements e.g. from 'strongly agree' to 'strongly disagree' or 'very important' to 'not important' work well, especially if a comments box is added for anyone to elaborate if they wish. You need to have much greater clarity in your research questions and a strong rationale for the framework of the questionnaire.

Hi,

I am also writing the same dissertation tile - sustainability means how does the community benefit on the housing stock? and does the public agree with this? I have been researching on books but cannot find much data in the library, do you know any specific books I could look at?

Thanks
