How can we charge extra fees after non completion if client is not at fault?

A job has significantly overrun. We have issued certificate of non completion and as yet have received no claim for EOT. In previous projects if the over run was due to extra works/client caused delays then we would approach them to cover our costs of extra months site inspection/ contract administration.

If the overrun is entirely or even just partly the contractors fault, with no scope for EOT, is there anyway we can claim additional fees for the extended period of our involvement from the contractor. I  do not know of any provision under the JCT IC which we are using and our appointment with the client does not allow for extra charges when the over run is not of their making?

The only way I could think is in future to include any extra fees we would charge within the clients liquidated damages and have a clause in our appointment where any overrun which we then apply damages to, also allows for for our fees from those damages for the time as well?

I assume this is a problem many people frequently face?
