I'm just coming up to completing my Part II. I've been studying for my post grad diploma part time meaning I've been working and studying. However, while I enjoy my job, I really want to get into model making. Obviously I've had the 7 years of practice in making models at university and for me it's been one of the most enjoyable parts and in my younger day's I had fun making airfix kits etc. What I want to know is how do I get involved in models making? Do I need to do a whole other degree? do I need experience in using precision cutting/moulding machines like they use at Foster's and Rodger's? Is someone likely to take on a 20 something partly qualified architect with next to no professional experience?

Hi Jack,
The 4d model shop has a list of courses you could do in model making, which you could look into. http://www.modelshop.co.uk/article/show/15
Before you look at doing a specific model making course, I would recommend visiting and speaking to some of the model makers themselves and ask them these questions. Pop into a model making studio, then you can also see a professional setup and how they work. I really enjoy visiting the studio's when we commission a model, it is really fun to watch. One of my favourite studios in London is Kandor (http://kandor.co.uk/aboutus.html)
Good luck.
A.
